Nosebleeds always symbolise a feminine struggle in the media, where they are frequently portrayed as a manifestation of weakness for women. These cinematic depictions often use nosebleeds as a visual metaphor to convey stress or emotional turmoil in high-pressure situations. Interestingly, in contrast, male characters in film may be depicted with nosebleeds as a sign of strength amidst adversity. The symbolism associated with nosebleeds can extend to themes related to menstruation, with some resorting to unconventional measures like inserting tampons into their noses in an attempt to stop the bleeding. My work Nosebleed (2023) hopes to show strength in the struggle of girlhood, being a girl is the exact opposite of weakness.
